The history of the ARAN group began almost 30 years ago. A company that previously had only been trading with construction material branched out into the field of waste disposal. The two sectors of "construction" and "waste" grew steadily; companies were acquired or newly established. Some 20 years ago, waste water processing had become part of the “Waste” business line, resulting in the formation of the “Technology” business line. At times the group included more than 50 companies, and in order to facilitate their management and control ARAN Holding GmbH was founded in 1991 to act as their holding company. Today ARAN holds interests in about 20 medium-sized companies doing business in Real Estate Development, Waste Recycling and Technology.

ARAN is a classical management and investment holding company and as such only sets strategic targets for its subsidiaries and associated companies, leaving them room for manoeuvre to ensure flexibility as and when required. Services such as bookkeeping and accounting, IT or company communication are offered by ARAN on a centralized basis and are available to the group companies at any time.

ARAN Holding GmbH has its headquarters in Bad Schwartau near Luebeck, Germany, and has 25 employees. The entire group employs approximately 400 people at more than 30 locations in Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Hungary, Romania and China.

In 1993, „ARAN Forum – Zeitschrift für die ARAN Gruppe“ was established, a magazine designed to provide staff members, customers and other interested parties with news about the group.
